The greatest choice I ever made as a parent and for myself was to begin loving who I am; Who I truly am. Not the image others expected of me. Writing “Mixed up with Me” felt vulnerable, embarrassing, and frightening. Putting my experiences into words, made everything feel more real. Releasing my words to the world was even more terrifying … but therapeutic in a way I’ve never experienced before.
I believe self-acceptance is a love not everyone has the luxury of experiencing. I know for me, it took getting kicked down time and time again before I finally decided to plant my feet firmly in the ground and shout- This is me, accept it or leave it! The beautiful thing about self- love is once you declare it, you never forget that power; The power you’ve carried all along, buried deep down under others’ perspectives of you. Your power seems to grow, if you make the choice to acknowledge it. And with that, your best self emerges. What a beautiful thought it is, that we possessed the ability to rescue ourselves all along.![]()
